Contact Lens Fitting

At Milburn and Neill we appreciate the freedom contact lenses can provide, whether it is for everyday or for those special occasions. Following a full eye examination, a contact lens fitting examination allows us to fit the best contact lenses to your eyes and your lifestyle. We fit all types of contact lenses, from soft disposable to orthokeratology to rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses.

We also offer specialty contact lens fitting for Keratoconus and other corneal diseases with the help of corneal topography and now sMap 3D.

Corneal Topography

Corneal topography is a way of imaging the surface of the cornea, which is the front surface of the eye. It can display problems with the cornea such as Keratoconus, astigmatism and scarring. Corneal topography allows our optometrists to visualise the shape of the cornea to help determine the best fitting contact lens for irregular corneas.

We fit all types of contact lenses, from soft disposable to orthokeratology to rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses. Contact lenses sit within the ocular tear film and often require management of any dry eye disease.

Corneal Tomography

Corneal tomography with our Scansys anterior segment tomography adds even greater depth of information from front and back corneal curves to measuring corneal elevation and aberrations. It can help to detect even the earliest forms of keratoconus and assist with contact lens fitting. It is also the work horse for our orthokeratology clinic that has grown out of our myopia management expertise

Corneal Profilematry

The sMap3D corneo-scleral profilometer is an advanced eye-mapping device at Milburn & Neill Optometrists in Dunedin. It captures over 1 million data points with 10-micron precision across a 22mm range of the eye surface. It measures both the clear cornea and the surrounding sclera (the white of the eye). This allows us to fit the most advanced and interesting corneas from advanced keratoconus and post injury or surgery eyes that can not be fitted with conventional contact lenses.
