Eye Examinations

Your eyesight is one of your most important senses and regular eye examinations are the best way to ensure your eyes are looked after. Regular comprehensive eye examinations are important to look for vision problems and eye diseases, many of which have no early warning signs.

A comprehensive eye examination usually takes up to 45 minutes and includes:

  • A discussion with your optometrist about your general health, your ocular history, family history of diseases such as glaucoma and diabetes, your lifestyle and your vision requirements

  • Measurement of your vision and spectacle prescription

  • Examination of the health of your eyes, including the front and back of the eye, and other important tests like the function of your eye muscles and the pressure in each eye

  • A summary and discussion about your individual management options and plan for future reviews of your eye health

Your optometrist may recommend further testing, such as corneal topography, OCT scan of your retina, or ask you to return for a visual fields test. These tests may carry an additional charge.
